1.2 THE SOJOURN
From July 1973, the first Management
Committee set our its major objectives as that of
solidifying the Society’s base through education
to increase membership, instill faith in members and
offer efficient services to the general membership.
The bond between the members was that they were all
employees of the Ministry of Health. The Management
Committee set to ensure that every member had equal
opportunity in the Society. However, in its early
years of operation, the Society lacked clear- cut
Management policies, procedures and direction.
In 1984, the Commissioner for Co-operative
Development dissolved the Management Committee and
appointed a Management Commission to run the Society’s
affairs for one year. The Management Commission revived
the Society by setting up sound administrative lending
and financial management policies and procedures.
The Management of the Society affairs reverted back
to its members in 1985 with election of a new Management
Committee. Since then, the Society has grown in leaps
and bounds and now ranks among tremendous growth and
earned itself a place in the Sacco fraternity in the
country as a leading Co-operative organization
The Society is currently poised for
further growth in the new 21st century and has already
laid our strategies for growth. The ability of the
Society to continue to grow is dependant on members’
confidence and support coupled with the responsiveness
of the leaders and commitment of the workers.
