THE ANNUAL DELEGATES CONFERENCE AT KICC ON SATURDAY 30TH APRIL
The Annual Delegates Conference was held on Saturday 30th April 2005 at KICC. The Guest of Honor was Mr. Solomon S. Boit, EBS, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing. In his Keynote address, he assured the delegates that the government would provide a conducive environment to make cooperatives perform better. Recently, the government amended the 1997 Co-operative Societies’ Act to be in line with prevailing challenges within the Co-operative movement.
He urged the management to rise up to the increasing challenge of competitiveness and ensure that the society survives in this era of liberalization.

The occasion was graced by his presence the Chairman of World Council of Credit Unions, Inc. (WOCCU) Mr. L.R. McVeigh and the Interim President &CEO Brian. Branch. In Mr. L.R. McVeigh’s speech, he said he was happy with the support from Afya Sacco. He emphasized on the need to uphold proper legislation and best practices and appreciated the Kenyan government involvement in providing this infrastructure. More so, he urged Kenyan cooperatives to work together for the good of all and wished the management well and challenged them to ensure Afya Sacco remained a safe and sound Co-operative. Afya and WOCCU have a cordial working relationship. WOCCU sent a team from Madison, USA, to work on a joint HIV/AIDS project as a first step in a series of projects that are being carried out by the two organizations. Afya and WOCCU have partnered with a few other Saccos to establish the International Remittance Network in the country, this he said, it would add value to services being provided to members.
